Eastern Blue Bird Pendant
Harlan Coonsis is a master of intricate mosaic inlay. Like other Zuni artists his inlay typically includes curved non-regular shapes, compared to master Navajo lapidary artists who generally work with straight lines. What separates Harlan from his Zuni peers is his unbelievable attention to detail and amazing finish. Here he depicits an Eastern Blue Bird that could easily work as an illustration in a guidebook. Blue bird feathers are often used in religious ceremonies in Zuni and looked upon with respect.
